I DON’T OWN WARRIORS
Ch 1
Stormcloud lay at her side with three kits chirping waiting to get their first meal. She was weak with exhaustion and as tired as ever. "There's a nice bunch. All healthy." said Rosetail, the Medicine Cat of EarthClan. She smiled. "What are you going to name them?" she asked. Rosetail was always curious about the naming of kits. She didn't know why, but the only thing she could think of was that she was never to have a mate or kits. She wanted to be a Medicine Cat, always, but with that came sacrifices.
Stormcloud smiled. What was she going to name them? She looked at the only she-cat. She was beautiful. Her fur was a beautiful creamy white color with light, light blond-like stripes. Her eyes, although closed, promised to be a beautiful light blue. "Lightkit." she said pointing and the beautiful she-kit.
Next she looked at the kit with a medium length fur. He looked completely like his father, a brown tabby with green eyes. And therefore, she will name him as his father. "Thunderkit." she flicked her tail at him.
And last was another tom. He was brownish-grey colored with dark brown spots and his eyes promised to be amber. "Spottedkit." she said naming the last kit.
"They are wonderful names." Rosetail said and rose to leave the mother with her kits. How much Rosetail wanted kits. Whitestorm smiled and guided the kits to her belly where they had thier first meal and finally fell asleep without a word. Stormcloud smiled and fell asleep curling her tail around her precious kits.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"Spottedkit!!!” Yelled Stormcloud at the top of her lungs one day. She looked everywhere. Whitefang and Rosetail ran as quickly as they can to the distressed Stormcloud. "He's gone!" she yelled, "He’s gone!" Rosetails eyes went wide. He's gone! She ran off to search for him. Where could he have gone? As she left, the flame red leader, Redstar came over.
"Thunderkit?" he asked. Or was it Spottedkit who disappeared? "No, Spottedkit! He's gone!" Stormcloud said and fell to the ground weeping. Was I really that bad of a mother?, she asked herself. What did i do wrong? "Whitefang, go look for the kit." said Redstar helping Stormcloud get back to the nursery. She walked back to her kits where Lightkit was sleeping, but Thunkderkit, he was awake. She curled up a long them and placed her white furry tail around them. Her heart beat fast and she could barely breath. Soon she rested herself and closed her eyes, for the last time.
"Stormcloud, i found the rest of Spottedkits body at the verry edge of the territory. He must have come out of camp and a fox got him." said Whitefang entering the nursery to tell Stormcloud the terrible news. When he heard no answer he walked inside. "Stormcloud?" Instead of seeing the weeping face of the queen as he thought it was, he saw a pale white face with closed eyes and a limp body. He backed out of the den quickly.
A while later he entered the den with Redstar at his side. Redstar walked to the dead body and sniffed her. "We are going to have to bury her today." he said and looked around. Greywisker was sleeping on the other side of the cave. Beside her lay the little Pantherkit. Pantherkit's own mother died after kitting. Redtail silently walked over to Greywisker. "Greywisker." he whispered. She sleepily looked up at the leader. "You're going to have to take care of Stormclouds kits now." he said sadly. Greywisker bolted up.
"What happened!" she said. Stormcloud was Greywisker’s best friend, and everyone knew that. They were friends since kithood and always stood up for each other. Redtail looked at her sadly and understood how hard it would be for Greywisker. With his tail, he pointed at the dead body on the other side of the cave with kits already wailing for meal time. She took Pantherkit by the scruff on the neck as if she was her kit and quickly walked over to her friends’ side. "Stormcloud." she said and started to cry. She picked up the two kits and pushed them gently to Pantherkit. Redtail signaled Whitefang to leave the cat alone and left himself. The she-cat would need to time to be with her friend.
That night, Stormcloud was buried and had her ceremony in which every cat knew she was going to StarClan a great warrior and a loving queen. Many tears were shed that night but it was obvious that Greywisker had cried harder are more than any other cat around her. Two warriors buried the great she-cat that night. Greywisker insisted on her burying Stormcloud and it was hard for Redstar to say no, but he had to. "You need to take care of the kits." he said, "This is the first night Lightkit and Thunderkit would be without their mother." Redstar remembered the first night he slept without his mother. The same thing has happened to his brother. After the ceremony, every cat went to sleep, and every cat didn't have a good sleep. Worst of all, was Thunderkit. He knew that this cat beside him was not his mother, but she had something like his mother. She had her spirit.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Half a moon passed slowly and the two remaining kits grew stronger every day. They played with Pantherkit and tried not to think of their lost brother. But every now and then, the two would fall in and weep at night. The days have gotten easier though. Every day, they thought less and less about their dead brother and tried to be happier. They tried to show it, but sometimes, it was too easy to know that they thought of him.
One day was another of the worst there ever was, or so thought Thunderkit. After watching the apprentices train, they played at the center of camp. They pretended that they were from different Clans and play-fought each other. “You can’t scratch me.” Teased Pantherkit. She dodged as the two siblings charged at her playfully. “Yes we can!” they replied and charged again. The two were a good team, if they would only synchronize their moves and attack at the same time, then they would be unstoppable. They charged and Pantherkit skillfully moved out of the way. She watched them and everything around her carefully. A heartbeat after they charged she saw a quick shadow and looked up. “Hawk!!!” she yelled. Thunderkit and Lightkit looked up and saw the hawk coming towards them, closer and closer by the heartbeat. “Duck!” yelled Thunderkit. “That’s not a duck Thunderkit, it’s a hawk.” Said Lightkit looking at the fast approaching bird with interest while her brother and friend got down as low as they could. “No, Lightkit! I mean get down!” yelled Thunderkit, but it was too late. The hawk swooped down and caught the easiest prey, which was Lightkit who didn’t ‘duck’.
“Lightkit!” Thunderkit yelled as his sister was dragged off by the great hawk. He tried to jump knowing that he would never get to her again. Whitestripe, another warrior, ran as soon as he heard something to the kits and noticed that Lightkit was gone. He looked where the two other kits looked and saw the hawk fly off just before it disappeared into the clouds. Greywisker and Redstar followed. “More bad news.” Said Whitestripe. “Lightkit was just taken by a hawk.” Redstar looked at the sad warrior and then at the two kits. “Why did it take only Lightkit?” he asked. “Because she didn’t get down like we told her too.” Said Thunderkit as he remembered that he was going to be weeping for her like he did his mother and brother. Then he realized, he was the only one left of the family. His mother and siblings dead, and his father is unknown to everyone. He started to cry.
“There there little one.” Said Greywisker talking for the first time. “You have survived, and there is always at least one kit who survives.” She said hoping to bring his spirits up. “But it was them who were supposed to survive!” Thunderkit yelled while weeping and ran off into the nursery with Pantherkit right behind him ready to help. “You know,” said Redstar sad for the kit, “I think Pantherkit and Thunderkit will be great friends.” He said seeing how they were always together and stood up for each other. “If only they would realize that and not weep for the past, but look for the future.” Greywisker replied. She walked towards the nursery to make sure the kits were fine. “Tonight will be just like the night his mother died, but it will soon be over.” She said without looking back and sniffed when she remembered the great Stormcloud.
~~~~~~~~~~~
As Greywisker suspected, Thunderkit fussed and turned in his sleep, having the same bad dream as he did long ago. Only he didn’t tell anyone his dream, only Pantherkit, and they kept it a secret from every cat. For three moons the two kits stayed with Greywisker. They were growing faster than ever and were almost ready to be apprentices.
"Come on, come on!" yelled Pantherkit running out of the den. An apprentice meeting was going to take place, she just knew it. A heartbeat after she ran out of the nursery she heard the familiar words she was thinking off. “Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under Dirt Mound for a Clan meeting.” Redstar’s voice rang through the trees strongly. He waited for the cats of EarthClan to gather beneath the Dirt Mound. One by one, cats came out of their dens and sat down looking at their leader. “I’m coming!” Yelled Thunderkit after his best friend. He caught up to her and sat down beside her smiling. They looked at their leader as he started.
“There is a kit who is now ready to be an apprentice.” His voice rang throughout camp like the great announcement it was containing. “Willowkit, please step forward.” Willowkit clumsily walked forward and stood just below the Dirt Mound. Redstar jumped down and sat a few mouse lengths away. “From this moment on, until she has earned her warrior name, this apprentice will be known as Willowpaw. Spottedpelt,” Redstar looked at the warrior,” do you promise to teach all your strengths and knowledge to the young apprentice?” Spottedpelt moved a little closer amazed that he was finally going to have his first apprentice. “I do.” He replied. Redstar smiled. “Then, as Willowpaw’s mentor, may you pass all you know to you apprentice.” Spottedpelt nodded and walked up to Willowpaw. They touched noses and he smiled. “I’ll teach you as best I can.” He whispered to her smiling. Willowpaw smiled back and tried to stay calm, although she wasn’t as calm as she wished to be. “Willowpaw! Willowpaw! Willowpaw!” Redstar chanted quietly growing louder as the other cats joined in. “That’s going to be us one day.” Pantherkit told Thunderkit. He couldn’t wait till it would be him one day.
_
Not long after it was his day. “Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under Dirt Mound for a Clan meeting.” Redstar said standing on the Dirt Mound only seven sun-highs later. Cats came out again and looked at their leader again as they did at Willowpaw’s ceremony. She told Pantherkit and Thunderkit of how it felt to be an apprentice and they just couldn’t wait. The two kits ran out of the nursery hoping it would be the last day they slept in there. They looked at their leader hoping it was their ceremony that was about to happen. He started to talk again. “There are two kits who are now ready to be apprentices.” Pantherkit and Thunderkit looked at each other. ‘It was their ceremony’ they silently told each other. “Pantherkit and Thunderkit, please step forward.” They smiled and together walked forward with their heads and tails held high. Redstar jumped down again, and again sat a few mouse-lengths away from the happy kits. “From this moment on, until they have earned their warrior names, these apprentices will now be known as Pantherpaw and Thunderpaw. Shadowclaw, do you promise to teach all your strengths and knowledge to Pantherpaw?” he waited for the reply, but it didn’t come late. “I do.” He said as soon as Redstar finished talking. Pantherpaw was going to be the best warrior there ever was, and he was going to make sure of that. “Then, as Pantherpaw’s mentor, may you pass all you know to your apprentice.” Shadowclaw walked to Pantherpaw and they touched noses. “Oh I will he said.” And he sat down beside his apprentice. “Yellowtail,” said Redstar before the cats would start cheering for only Pantherpaw, “do you promise to teach all your strengths and knowledge to Thunderpaw?” Yellowtail stepped forward. “I do.” He said and walked to his soon-to-be apprentice. “Then, as Thunderpaw’s mentor, may you pass all you know to your apprentice.” Yellowtail nodded to Redstar happily and touched noses with Thunderpaw. “Pantherpaw Thunderpaw! Pantherpaw! Thunderpaw1” chanted Redstar who was immediately followed by all the other cats of EarthClan.
